Three things that excite me about this movie: the rating of 81 (that’s huge) on metacritic, FUNK and SOUL music, and this bangin’ poster.
Hell, I like any movie poster that isn’t slathered with photography and digital effects.
About the movie (from the site):
“Presented by Jamie Foxx, THUNDER SOUL follows the extraordinary alumni from Houston’s storied Kashmere High School Stage Band, who return home after 35 years to play a tribute concert for the 92-year-old “Prof,” their beloved band leader who broke the color barrier and transformed the school’s struggling jazz band into a world-class funk powerhouse in the early 1970s.”
Poster design by Concept Arts. Most of their work isn’t interesting to me — they’re an agency that works with the movie and games industry — but I like how they took the often used silhouette-idea and gave it just the right touches to make it totally unique to this movie. (School bands at the time were predominantly white and conservative, and “Prof” encouraged this all-black band to embrace their own unique style, hence the afro.) I love how the music notes look like they just sprinkled onto and stuck in the ‘fro.
