The Family We Choose

I’ve been in LA for coming on to two years now, and while I’ve met some very nice, incredibly talented people, there’s just nobody like the people with whom you stumbled through college. Hours of eating junk food, watching SYTYCD, dance rehearsal (with tears of frustration and epic celebrations of wins), late night monument walks, sleeping at 7am and waking up at 3pm without brushing your teeth to go get Thomas Sweets in Georgetown - I KNEW those were some of the best times of my life, but that doesn’t stop me missing and wishing for them any less.

This past weekend my friends Q and Carly, with whom Adro, Jeff, and I danced with for most of our college years came to visit, and hallelujah, we did our very best to relive those days. Our old bodies couldn’t handle ALL the crazy of our undergrad days, but we did some damn good eating and fun-having.

Mostly, there was food. Copious, disgusting amounts of food. The whole trip was basically a food tour, with bits of hanging out in between, waiting to digest enough to get to the next food stop.

It was gluttonous, and amazing.

Here we have just ingested some In-N-Out (milkshakes whaaaat!), are passing out from food coma, and doing nothing but enjoying each other’s company. It’s like 2006 all over again.

I often feel a little incomplete, people-wise, out here, but for those 4 days, I felt whole again. Let’s raise a glass to the family that we’re lucky enough to find along the way!
